In project 1, I explored more on how to make the aggregated cube form from Project 0 a habitable space. Through discussion with my client, David Vega, I determined form design through positioning and placement of cube volumes. From the sections, plan, and elevations, the consitency of the cube language can be seen in David's happy place and how the volumes intersect to create the specific program spaces.

In David's happy place, he primarily wanted a flexible, mixed-use space that had a strong balance between private and open spaces and between the exterior and interior, natural materials, and moving flexible spaces. Based off his specific wants and the vibes he was pursuing, I created four collages to visually capture how the programs spaces could be imagined. Accounting for a small building footprint, we thought it was best to create a mechanical space that can move and reorganize into various compositions within a overall cube infrastructure and shell in order to combine several solid spaces, as seen in the collages, to the sought-after flexible, mixed-use space. Through moving rectangular floor spaces that move up and down, interior walls that slide left and right, and exterior walls that can open and close to the outsides, the design provides David the opportunities to create the atmosphere that he desires whenevr and however he wants.

The comics protray more of the mechanical space design with moving parts to demonstrate the different uses and potential of spaces. Interior walls, some that serve as storage and others as a program filter, can move to isolate and open up rooms while some exterior walls can completely open up, like a garage, to create a contnuos space from the outside and inside. Moving floor panels can move up and down to reveal hidden furniture, hidden plant 'boxes', lighting, storage, etc. The comics primarily focus on how the moving elements can create different uses and vibes that David was seeking in his happy place, as seen in the collages.
