The isometric view above showcases a room that was sliced and carved away to resemble both exterior and interior space. A four sided pyramid shaped void cuts into the cube to create depth and refuge while a five sided pyramid shaped void stretches from one face of the cube to the other to let light in and allow for passage. A skewed rectangular shape slices through the large cube form to intersect both pyramids and create small cavities. The cavities create possibilities of movement and circulation within the cube while establishing a relationship from one void to another.

The series of elevation sketches show multiple variations of recessed shapes in relationship to the cube. Rectangular and pyramidal shapes intersect at certain points to define spaces within the cube.

The elevation view of the room as seen above shows a door defined by the pyramid shape that goes directly into the interior space. A skewed rectangle and a pyramid frustum, intersect with the pyramid to create apertures that take in sunlight and light up the interior pyramid. Dashed lines show where the shapes recess into the cube and the whitespace shows the portion of the cube that remains solid at the front face of the room.

Four section cuts are drawn from the centerpoint of the previous line drawing elevations to test out different possibilities of interior space. The dotted part of the drawings show where the cube remains a solid material. Rectangle and pyramid forms were tested in multiple ways to produce a connected and spacious interior.

A section cut of the room conveys the spacious interior that appears as a subject may walk further inside. The rectangular shape in the middle cuts through the cube to produce various windows while the pyramid shape closes in behind to create a smaller and more intimate environment that balances the room’s spacious core. The passage above remains seperate at this cut point but intersects the rectangular shape further back, as represented in the blue dashed lines.
