To further develop this collective dwelling project I decided to focus on a series of interior courtyards along the site by showcasing how a new residence might navigate the space. These courtyard spaces serve as moments of relief from the seriousness of the inside. I wanted to emphasize that relief through the use of contrasting light and darkness. A central part of our design as a collective was the courtyard spaces on site. There is a large sunken courtyard in the center to promote connectivity. But another large aspect of these is the interior courtyards within the site, which are housed at each corner. I decided to develop the public entry courtyard, therapy courtyard, and dining courtyard for this project. To do so I created a short film of a new resident’s journey through the space. The film utilizes hand-drawn methods along with computer renders. Pictured above are a few stills from the short.
Above is the short in its entirety.
