Yifan’s Happy Place criterion consisted of a multitude of different activities centering around energy, sharing, and relaxation. The layered approach to the form lent itself nicely to adding several types of activities around a large piece of multifunctional superfurniture. This allowed multiple things to occur simultaneously by Yifan himself or in conjunction with a friend in both calming and energizing spaces.
Here in the roof plan you can see the mini soccer field that is at the base of the structure, as well as a few added stair-access platforms that were created for various activities such as dancing/weight lifting and taking a rejuvenating nap. Additionally you can see the feet of someone inside the 360 Virtual Karaoke/Video Game lounge sticking out as well as the opening to the chimney for the small oven space on the upper left-hand side.

Taking off the roof, you can see a hidden meditation alcove as well as the shaft of the chimney for the oven.

In this elevation view the mini soccer field aperture is visible, allowing for two individuals to pass the ball between each other on either side of the superfurniture structure. The weightlifting/dance platform is visible and can double again as a viewing space for the soccer game below. The feet of the person enjoying the Virtual 360 space are again visible in the background.

In this elevation we can see the added stairs that lead to the multi-use platform for exercising/dancing and up to the Virtual 360 space. The opening of the oven entry is fully visible here as well.

Here in this section cut we can finally see the inside of the Virtual 360 space for karaoke/video games. The individual is strapped in and a full screen surrounds their entire field of vision for a full immersive experience.
The meditation space is again visible from this view as a tucked away platform that is slightly enclosed so as to offer more quiet and relaxation.

Here we can see the full extent of the oven and chimney shaft allowing Yifan and his friends to bake scrumptious snacks for sharing after finishing all their activities.

The layout of the board is done so to create a set of “building blocks” that slightly stack upon each other to the top of the layout. Additionally some of the graphics have a gradient at their base to show a warping portal between dimensions which lend itself to the comic below.

The comic represents Yifan and his Happy Place activities as he starts out at the bottom attempting to climb out of some of his views and spaces in 2D. He starts making his way up the layout pausing for naps or sometimes gravitational mishaps. Eventually he builds up enough energy to make it to the top and make it out of the layout into his final 3D form where he celebrates in ecstatic joy.
