For this project, my form was generated using the formal type of “faceted.” In the process of generating the final form, I started with a single-faceted volume. Throughout the design process, I added two additional volumes, organizing the footprints of all three volumes within the bounds of a rectangle. With the addition of each volume, placed in dialogue with the others, interior space is defined. Each volume stretches upward to a single peak at different heights. The individual peaks of each volume stretch towards each other but do not meet. Selected facets have been subtracted to create long splits or cracks in each form and to open up the forms where they face each other, creating two scales of interior.
This final edited photograph shows the model cast in blue and white light. The isocurves as seen in the Rhino model have been re-projected digitally across the surface of the physical model to further fracture the facets and complicate the perception of scale.

The parti shows the relationship between the shapes used to create the faceted forms in plan and the interior space that is created through their placement. It shows that although faceted irregularly, they are bounded within a rectangle. Additionally, it shows the moments of opening and constriction that the forms create along a curved path.

This photograph demonstrates the relation and dialogue of the forms with each other despite their physical separation. It shows the stretching of the forms together to nearly a peak. It also shows the facets that have been subtracted to create cracks or splits and allow for glimpses of the interior.

This photograph shows an aerial view of the forms. It displays their physical separation and gives a sense of the two scales of interior that are created through each individual form and the relationship or space between them.
